Chocolate is great for many things. It is there when you celebrate and it is there when you need comfort. I am going to need some good chocolate!
We've recently had some interesting things happen, but I'll just be talking about one. About a month ago we noticed a strange smell in our living room. I cleaned the carpet again (I tried to defunktify the carpet when we first moved in) but we kept noticing the smell. After taking down our Christmas tree from the corner of the living room I noticed that my feet were wet. It turned out our house is letting water in. We've had leaks in the kitchen and we were assured by maintenance that was pretty normal because bricks have "weep holes." When coming to "fix" our living room he peeked inside the house, saw that I had our fans blowing the carpet and said, "yeah, that's basically what I would been doing. Let me know if it leaks again and I'll come back." I not really sure what he'd be coming back to do since he didn't do anything in the first place.
Well, today is the third time I have had to lift up the carpet and attempt to dry out the mildewy carpet pad and the carpet. Now there is water coming in from underneath the front door as well, so we have water coming in two side of our living room. Anyone who lives here can attest to the way-beyond poor management we have. Their response is that they cannot fix it until the spring when everything is thawed out. Which, by that time, we may have an indoor pool. Or, we can transfer to another unit, which we would have to pay a fee for because it would be a break of our contract agreement. A-w-e-s-o-m-e.
If you happen to be looking for me, you can find me eating chocolate and packing on the pounds or floating on my couch in the living room. :)
The positive thing about this is that our emergency water supply will literally be at our feet and ready at a moments notice. :) I'm sure something will work out and this will be a fun memory of life during medical school. In all seriousness, at least we have a home...I feel so bad for those people in Haiti right now.

Oh, I'm so sorry. That looks like no fun at all. You do need some chocolate. A lot of it. Email me your mailing address. I'll send you a Milka bar or something. I got some chocolate for Christmas from Germany, and I think there is leftover. Seriously. Email me.
(p.s. I owe you an update! I'll have to email you soon. Been moving in and stuff..it's been busy)
I feel so bad for you! But I have to say, I was cracking up at how you told the story! Way to see the positive. You gotta love Med school.
David and I feel slightly responsible for even finding the apartment complex in the first place. Are they going to let you move without paying, and soon? Let me know if there is anything we can do to help. Apparently management wasn't expecting a freak January thaw and weren't ready to replace the carpet again, as if that was the real problem. But hey, it's suppose to freeze again. Maybe that will stop the water from coming in:)
I think you guys should see if you can get brand new carpet because of all this. I was a stinker about our carpet at our one year here and they had our entire apts carpet cleaned for us. It was nice and fresh as it could be. Sorry you guy if you need any towels etc let us know! I think our building is going downhill. I am pretty sure we will be moving into a 3 bedroom this summer!
Oh, I am so sorry! If I can be of any help with getting you some chocolate let me know. I will send you a package if you want! I am very serious.
