Amana Colonies, Iowa
Last Saturday we took a day trip to the Amana Colonies in Iowa. What are they you ask? Well, it's an old German settlement that escaped religious persecution in Europe and settled in Iowa. The people that live there are clearly not German but they keep the town up by trying to keep things as authentic as possible. Some of the stores they had were antique shops, meat shops, wineries, and a chocolate shop. It was a really cute town and we had a fun time with my sister and her family.
This was the first stop since we were told that needed to stop there. It's the bakery and it was so cute, especially on the inside. Mike and Morgan got some yummy treats while we were there.
Morgan saw the smiley face cookie and of course wanted it. She took a couple of bites and she was done. Thank goodness for a daddy who can always find a little room in his stomach, or his hollow leg. :)
Mike got the apple dumpling, it was quite messy and very good.
Here's part of the town.
For lunch we stopped here. There were about two restaurants in town, this one turned out to be pretty good. We ordered some German food of course.
Morgan and her cousin Makayla coloring before our food arrived.
On the way to this really neat furniture store we saw these plants with huge leaves! Mike was pretending to be eaten by one. If you can't tell how big those leaves are, Mike is 6'4" so it was a pretty big leaf.
Here is everyone walking back to the car, the girls needed to swing. :)
Hugging Makayla goodbye. This picture was taken just before Morgan knocked her down because she was a little forceful with the hugs. haha. Sorry Cami. :)

i am glad you guys went and got to meet up with your sister! That would make it so much more fun. Did you guys stop by the outlet mall on the way there? Or bring me home any chocolates? hehe
I looove the Amana colonies! I can't tell you how many times we've been to the Ronneburg restaurant. If you want great food, go for breakfast and order the pancakes. They're huge, and delicious! Well, that's nice that you got to see your sister and that Morgan got to play with her cousin. Glad you're getting to tour the state a little!
Makayla has been scarred by the whole hugging incident. She will find small cuts or bruises and tell me, "Morgan...push me." She won't get over it.
